UPDATED: Coningsby Typhoons scrambled to escort passenger plane
Typhoons from RAF Coningsby were scrambled this morning, Tuesday August 5, to escort a passenger plane into Manchester airport.
The plane, a Qatar Airways Airbus A330, was accompanied into Manchester airport by one Typhoon from RAF Coningsby after the pilot became aware of rumours that there was a device on board.
Ch Supt O’Hare said: “An incoming plane has been escorted into the airport by the Royal Air Force as a result of information received by the pilot about a possible device on board. We don’t know how genuine this threat is but it is absolutely vital we deal with the situation as a full emergency.”
The incident is thought to be a bomb hoax.
