Quigley eyes top police role

FORMER Bassetlaw Council leader Mike Quigley has been named as the Conservative candidate in the running to become the first police commissioner in Notts.

The directly-elected commissioner, who will replace Notts Police Authority, is expected to set the force’s priorities, set the budget and hold the chief constable to account among other responsibilities.

They are also expected to have the power to appoint and dismiss the chief constable.
