Tributes paid to famous musician with ties to Skegness
Ricky Valance (David Spencer) passed away recently, aged 84.
A famous ‘60’s performer, he rose to fame with the song he performed ‘Tell Laura I Love her’, which reached Number 1 in the UK’s single chart.

Hide AdThe hit song sold over a million copies, and he was the first male Welsh signed to have a UK number one hit.
He also attempted to be the UK’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1961. His song ‘Why can’t we?’ placed third in the national selection.
Other singles released by Ricky included ‘Movin’ Away’, which became Number 1 in Australia and Scandinavia.
The song, which was released in 1960, was released in the United States, was written by Jeff Barry and Ben Raleigh. The original version, performed by Ray Paterson.

Hide AdTony Knaggs, a friend of Ricky’s and a fellow musician, said: "It was very sad hearing the news of the sudden death of Ricky Valance.
"I’m sure those who remember Ricky will want to join us in sending our deepest condolences to his wife Evelyn, Clay, Sian and grandchildren. R.I.P. Ricky."
Ricky moved for Skegness in 2015 with his wife, having previously lived in Wales. He is believed to have played several gigs in the past at Butlins.
