A1 Housing embarked on Decent Homes in 2007
The housing organisation embarked on its Decent Homes programme back in 2007 and to date has installed 3,153 kitchens, 2,044 bathrooms, 2,214 central heating systems, around 19,700 windows and 2,785 doors.
It reached the milestone last month when Kathleen Green had Air Sourcing Heating installed in her Tuxford bungalow, soon after having her kitchen and bathroom replaced.

“There have been a number of achievements along the way, non-more-so than ensuring that many more homes in Bassetlaw have been maintained or made decent than we originally envisaged.”
The Decent Homes programme is entering its final year in Bassetlaw but the hard work does not stop here said Mr Spittlehouse.
He added: “While this is the final year of Government funding for Decent Homes work, A1 Housing and our Decent Homes partners Bullock Construction, are dedicated to maintaining decency in all our properties in the future.”

Hide AdMark Ladyman, director of community services at Bassetlaw Council said: “Bassetlaw Council is extremely pleased at the progress A1 Housing has made in the near completion of the Decent Homes Programme.”
“This has made a real physical and visible difference in the standard of homes for our tenants.”
“However, the hard work doesn’t stop here.”
“Working in partnership the council and A1 Housing are fully committed to maintaining the highest standard of housing for our tenants.”
Having lived in her Tuxford bungalow for the last 27 years, A1 Housing tenant Kathleen has benefited from a new kitchen, a wet-room and more recently Air Source Heating.

“The wet-room has made life so much easier because I was struggling to get in and out of the bath. I’m slowly getting used to the heating and we’ll see if it’s cheaper in the long run.”
Kathleen, and her now late husband, were the first people to move into their bungalow when it was first built in 1986, and have not moved since.
