Overheated combine harvester clutch sees three fire crews scramble to Billinghay

Three fire crews were called to tackle an overheating combine harvester on fire near Billinghay on Monday night.

The crews from Sleaford, Woodhall Spa and Billinghay found the harvester alight in a field near Far Hurn Drove, according to a fire service report.

The incident was reported just before 9pm and crews cooled down the clutch compartment using water from a hose.

On investigation it was explained that the clutch had overheated and ignited the grease around it.
