Gritter catches fire at Holdingham Roundabout

Firefighters were needed when a council gritter caught fire on the A17 at Holdingham Roundabout, near Sleaford in the early hours of this morning (Monday).

The alarm was raised at 3.41am and a crew from Sleaford went out to the incident where a prop shaft bearing had caught fire and was damaged.

The crew hosed it down to stop the fire spreading.

A council highways spokesman said: “Thankfully the driver was fine. The gritter is now at one of our depots where we’re investigating the cause of the fire.

“The route was completed by another vehicle and the gritting routes won’t be affected.”
