A Dinnington-based company is helping develop a new invention to help gardeners beat hosepipe bans by harvesting rainwater.

Melport Plastics is helping develop Watflow, the brainchild of plastics moulding specialist Melvyn Davenport, who established the company for this purpose.

Melvyn has designed a moulded component which can be fitted to any waste or rainwater downpipe.

It filters water before it is deposited into a water butt and it features an automatic overflow so when the butt is full, excess water is returned to the external drainage system.
