A combine harvester was destroyed when it caught fire in a field near Sleaford last night (Tuesday).

The fire took hold of the harvester on farmland off London Road, Silk Willoughby and fire crews from Billingborough, Donington and Lincoln attended the report at 6.35pm.

The machine was almost completely destroyed by the flames, according to a fire service spokesman, which spread to six tonnes of barley and four acres of standing crop.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus hosed down the machine and burning crop to put the fire out and prevent it spreading further.

There are no reports of any injuries.
